US Sen Kirsten Gillibrand says that the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act, a bill to permanently extend and fully fund the 9/11 health and compensation programs, has garnered 61 Senate cosponsors, including 15 Republicans – a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate – and 237 cosponsors in the House of Representatives. 9/11 bill to aid Ground Zero workers rapidly gaining support in Congress
Eleven people who worked in rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have died in the six weeks since the most recent anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Another Ground Zero worker, Roy McLaughlin, died Sept. 10, one day before the anniversary. McLaughlin, 38, was a Yonkers police officer when the World Trade Center was attacked. Later promoted to a lieutenant, the married father of four young children was diagnosed with brain cancer five years ago.

The retired Port Authority police sergeant became an emotional and physical wreck after a 22-year career that started with the shooting death of his first partner and ended on 9/11 at the World Trade Center, where he helped evacuate hundreds and narrowly escaped the towers while seven cops on his team perished. Brian Ahr, FDNY firefighter, 9/11 and Flight 587 first responder, dies at 49
Brian K. Ahr, 49, a former West Brighton resident, retired FDNY firefighter, master carpenter and steadfast family man, died Thursday at his home in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mr. Ahr was a first responder at Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as to the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in the Rockaways, Queens, on Nov. 1 of that year. More.

Archdiocese of New York looks to help immigrant workers, volunteers who became ill after working at Ground Zero
Immigrants who got sick after working at Ground Zero and have inadequate health insurance could get some help from the Archdiocese of New York, according to newly filed court documents. The Archdiocese is asking a state judge permission to use $1.3 million that it raised in scholarship money for the children of 9/11 victims to be given to Catholic Charities. More.
