Happy New Year! I hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday season. As we begin 2008, I cannot resist a brief reflection on 2007 and, more importantly, touch upon our enhanced support programs for the coming year.

Last week I was honored to join the National September 11 Memorial Museum tour at Legends Field in Tampa, Florida. The traveling exhibition was the final stop in a 25-city itinerary, paying tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11th.

Once a year I devote my letter to asking for your financial support. At a time when many 9/11 organizations are closing or revisiting their mission, VOICES is stronger than ever, with broadened programs planned in 2008.

Our staff attended the World Trade Center Registry Public Meeting on Wednesday at Pace University in New York City. The conference provided an update on efforts to monitor the health of rescue workers, survivors and residents living and working in the vicinity of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

This week I had the pleasure of visiting Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The university invited me to address the student body to discuss the formation of Voices of September 11th, our advocacy work and the importance of civic engagement.

This week we held a workshop in Brooklyn, New York. Our staff was touched by the stories and the personal keepsakes the families shared to include in the 9/11 Living Memorial. They brought exceptional photographs, newspaper articles, and tributes as well as medals and awards to include in the digital archive.

The VOICES team is looking forward to the 9/11 Living Memorial workshop scheduled this Wednesday in Brooklyn, New York. We have had a wonderful response thus far, but remind those who are interested in attending to contact our office.

In the past several weeks VOICES has reached a major milestone. With your participation, more than 1,000 Family Tributes have been added to our 9/11 Living Memorial digital archive. Some families have just begun the process, while others are continuing to add photographs and tributes to commemorate the lives of their loved ones.

Yesterday we held a 9/11 Living Memorial workshop in New Jersey at the home of Loreen & Matthew Sellitto. As always, it was wonderful for the VOICES staff to meet with families to help them begin their Family Tribute pages.

This week, photographer Brownie Harris, shared with me a selection of the family portraits he took of many of you at our "Preserving 9/11" Forum and Commemorative Luncheon. I was struck by the resiliency that was conveyed in so many of the photos.
