In this week's newsletter we are featuring stories about the legacy that several family members have created through their work. Last week President Obama honored Steve and Liz Alderman with the 2011 Presidential Citizens Award for their work in establishing clinics in post-conflict countries through the foundation they created in memory of their son, Peter. As Liz Alderman wrote in her e-mail, "we wanted to leave a profound and indelible mark that Peter existed and that because he had lived, the world would be a better place."

VOICES staff is available to meet with you at our New Canaan, CT or New Brunswick, NJ offices or to host a workshop in your community.

The Tenth Anniversary was a busy and emotional time for us all. Whether you gathered at the Memorials in New York City, Washington, DC or in Shanksville, Pa, or attended memorial events in your community or chose to reflect privately, this anniversary was a challenging time for each of us.

All of us at VOICES send our heartfelt thanks to those who contributed to making our 10th Anniversary events truly memorable for the 9/11 community. This year we participated in fourteen commemorative events in five states, benefitting over 6,000 attendees. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to a long list of caring individuals who participated in panel discussions, displayed artwork and contributed their time and talent in a variety of ways.

We gain strength from each other.

This year the September 10th Information Forum is focused on remembrance and resilience and with concurrent panel discussions, focus groups, presentations and 9/11 Living Memorial workshops.

VOICES is excited to be participating in a short documentary film that highlights stories of resiliency that we hear every day in our work with 9/11 families, survivors and rescue workers. This documentary will be premiered on September 8th at the 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Summit at the Newseum in Washington, DC. We would like to invite you to share your inspirational stories with others by participating in this project.

This week Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced a resolution that "calls on Americans to come together as a nation for a Moment of Remembrance at 1:00 PM on September 11, 2011." We are grateful to Senator Lautenberg and his co-sponsors, Senators Robert Menendez , Charles Schumer, Robert P. Casey, Jr., Pat Toomey, Richard Blumenthal, Joseph Lieberman, Mark Warner, and Jim Webb, for their leadership in sponsoring this meaningful resolution.
