With the Tenth Anniversary approaching and the news coverage of the devastating destruction in Japan, many families have reported feeling anxious. Besides turning off the TV, Radio and Internet, leaving magazines and newspapers unread, and hiding under the covers, what can we do? Working with the families over the years we've found that each individual has different ways of coping with exposure to images and reminders of 9/11. The most important consideration is to take the time to consider what is right for you and your family.

VOICES of September 11th is a participating charity partner in the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday, May 2nd. This event is a 42 mile ride for 30,000 cyclists car-free across New York City. We have 25 charity slots for the Bike Tour and signing up through VOICES reserves a spot for you near the starting line. Bike New York’s registration fee is waived for charity partner team members.

Last week VOICES launched its 9/11 Living Memorial workshops at the Women in Military Service Museum in Washington DC. VOICES staff had an opportunity to meet with 9/11 families and survivors of the Pentagon attacks. This was our first visit to the area and we were encouraged by the positive response to the 9/11 Living Memorial Project.

As the sobering details from Haiti continue to unfold, our thoughts and prayers are with those families who have been so profoundly impacted. The loss of life and human suffering are hard to imagine and, much like after 9/11, the outpouring of compassion and generosity from around the world has been extraordinary.

During the month of January we will host a number of 9/11 Living Memorial workshops in our offices in Connecticut and New Jersey and in communities throughout the tri-state area.

Join Wreaths Across America at the Memorial Walk at Battery Park in New York City - a memorial service to honor the 88 NYC Service Members lost in military service since September 11, 2001 and the 2,752 September 11, 2001 World Trade Center victims.

President Obama’s announcement on Afghanistan and the decision to hold the 9/11 trials in New York mean the services that VOICES provides will be even more critical in 2010. Due to the requests of our membership we are hosting additional teleconference support groups on Monday, December 7th at 12noon; Wednesday, December 9th at 10am and Thursday, December 17th at 7pm.
