As the 8th anniversary approaches we are making plans for our annual September 10th Day of Remembrance in New York City and at our new office in New Brunswick New Jersey. The Day of Remembrance will include a 9/11 Living Memorial Workshop, an update on the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and a series of breakout sessions and panel discussions. In an effort to understand the needs of our membership, we ask you to take a few moments to participate in a brief survey.

Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson recently announced the plans for the September 11th Anniversary Ceremony in New York City.   This year's service will reflect the new designation of September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.  Family members will join volunteers from the five boroughs to read the names of those lost.  Although family members can no longer descend to bedrock, the Port Authority is providing access to  the newly constructed upper level section of the memorial site.

Many families contacted our office this week, in disbelief by the planes flying over New York City.  On a personal note, I received a call from my 28 year old son who was working in New Jersey.  Although he didn't have a view of the plane, his firm reacted swiftly by directing their employees to drop what they were doing and evacuate, no questions asked.

Last Friday evening, I attended Tuesday’s Children “Women of Strength” fundraising event. I was truly honored to be recognized along with a remarkable group of women—Abigail Carter, Christie Coombs, Meaghan Coombs, and Eileen Lynch—all of whom have been a great inspiration to so many over the years.

We are continuing to make progress on the 9/11 Living Memorial Project through our outreach to families throughout the tri-state area. Last month Keefe, Bruyette and Woods hosted a reception at their Midtown office that provided an opportunity for us to meet with their 9/11 families and employees. Through our partnership with KBW, we are able to ensure that the lives of their employees and those who survived are documented in the 9/11 Living Memorial.
