About:

It is to honor and memorialize the victims and survivors of September 11. Reason site was selected: It is a brand new stadium used predominantly by the local baseball team that needed trees to landscape it. Alliant offered the Freedom Trees program, and employee Heather Lampe saw it as an opportunity for her nonprofit membership organization to collaborate with her employer and the City of Cedar Rapids to plant 100 trees. Events planned for site: At the dedication the mayor, the vice president of Alliant Energy, the parks commissioner, Veterans' commission and baseball team members, and a survivor of September 11 all spoke. There was a symbolic volunteer tree planting and a barbershop quartet sang. The even was coordinated with the day that the baseball team was honoring local heroes of the fire and police department and rescue workers. Do you believe your memorial is a sacred place?: Currently, trees are planted at the entrance to the stadium only, but eventually they will be placed on the other side by the Veteran's memorial, which Lampe believes is a sacred space.
