Dedicated to:

those lost on September 11.

About:

Purpose: To donate food to pantries in memory of those lost on September 11. Reason site was selected: Gateway Greening, a nonprofit, already owned and ran this extensive garden, and dedicated a portion of it to a memorial orchard using trees donated from a local orchard.

Events planned for site: Unique to the memorial orchard, they will hold demonstrations on growing and harvesting fruit trees in urban garden. Of course their "supplying in memory" program will remain in perpetuity. Their garden also holds teacher trainings, hosts workshops, volunteer building days, and the "great perennial divide up" in the spring, involving hundreds of community members.

Do you believe your memorial is a sacred place?: Executive Directory Gwenne Hayes-Stewart responds, "A belief in peace and the future; gardeners are long-range types in general, and living memorials are really something they can get involved in."
