Montgomery County's memorial to the 11 residents who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks includes 11 benches bearing inscriptions reflecting the character of each person. Located in Courthouse Square Park in downtown Rockville, the memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2003, with family members, local officials and the public in attendance. Also included is a list of names of those lost in the tragedy. On the morning of September 11, the names are illuminated by a beam of sunlight. The 11 victims: William Edward Caswell, Dr. Gerald Paul Fisher, Capt. Lawrence D. Getzfred, Michele M. Heidenberger, Angela Marie Houtz, Teddington Hamm Moy, Lt. Darin H. Pontell, Scott A. Powell, Todd Hayes Reuben, Patricia J. Statz, Ernest M. Willcher.
