The plaque, which designates the tree as a living memoiral to the Sept. 11 victims and families, reads: "September 11th Oak. This rare Daimyo Oak was planted by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and the NC State community on the first anniversary of the tragic attacks on our nation that occurred September 11, 2001." Fox added, "through these commemorations, we join millions of other people worldwide to remember the victims and celebrate the heores of September 11 - and affirm the values of tolerance and peace." Reason site was selected. The Brickyard is a central area where students interact on the NCSU campus. Events planned for site. The planting and dedication featured the school Chancellor and other officials, university singing groups, representatives from the Raleigh Fire Department, and members of ROTC in a solemn ceremony.
