In tribute to the men and women lost in the tragic attack on New York City on September 11, 2001
Originally dedicated on September 14, 2003, the educational display is in Building N, in the heart of Snug Harbor’s grounds. Through artifacts, pictures and multimedia displays—including a memorial wall of Staten Islanders who perished in the attack—the Center creates a sense of shared commonality in the tragedy. The building is surrounded by vibrant flowering annual and perennial plantings and a waterfall.
Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, a distinguished Smithsonian affiliate, has reopened its 9/11 Tribute Center. Designed as a place for quiet reflection, the permanent installation will be manned by FDNY firefighters from Rescue Five and is open every week from 10 am to 4 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
