Alvin P Kappelmann Volunteer of the Year Award

Kappelmann, an insurance executive whose office was several blocks away from the World Trade Center, was attending a Sept. 11, 2001 morning meeting with representatives from Aon Corporation, which once occupied floors 98-105 in the complex's South Tower. The former Green Brook fire chief, whose family founded the township's volunteer firefighter more than 80 years ago, was a firefighter in the township for more than 40 years. He left behind a wife, Barbara, and two daughters, Kristen and Melanie.
