Hi, I'm a Junior doing a research project on an individual that passed on 9/11. I'm so sorry for your loss, he seemed like a great person to be around.

Colonel Charles E. Jones is the program director for Intelligence and Command, Control, Communications, Counter Measures (C3CM) Systems at Electronic Systems Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. He is responsible for over 40 programs in all stages of development, test, and acquisition.

Colonel Jones was commissioned as a second lieutenant out of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He began his career as a systems program officer in the Space and Missile Systems Organization at Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., which set the tone for most of his career. He remained at Los Angeles AFB for many years, working on launch systems, reentry vehicles and systems, space shuttle system enhancement, ground systems, and integration of the Defense Support program satellite on the Space Shuttle. In 1983 he was selected as a manned spaceflight engineer, and became a fully qualified space shuttle crew member. From Los Angeles AFB, Colonel Jones went to Washington D.C. where he remained until his present assignment at Hanscom Air Force Base. There, he was director of Space Systems Intelligence, evaluating foreign space capabilities and threats.

Colonel Jones is married to the former Mary Mellos of San Diego, California.
