John F. McDowell Jr., GSB ’91 worked at Sandler O’Neill- but before that he was a caddy in the Hamptons. When he saw a man who had interviewed him on the golf course, he was so enthusiastic about the job that the interviewer said if he stopped talking, he could start Monday morning. A lover of fine dressing, he was finally able to buy a Brooks Brothers suit for work. He was engaged at the time of his death.

There was never a time when John Francis McDowell Jr., did not care about living in style. "He got his first Polo golf shirt in elementary school, and he just thought it was the cat's meow," said his sister, Megan. "He'd buy Ralph Lauren cologne, boxer shorts, dress shirts, everything. And he loved Herm*s ties."
For some years after college, Mr. McDowell was more intent on golf, skiing and partying than on making a career. But eventually, the connections he made caddying in the Hamptons helped land his dream job at Sandler O'Neill, an investment banking firm in the World Trade Center.
As his father tells it, Mr. McDowell was on the golf course six years ago, with a man who had previously interviewed him, when it began to rain. Mr. McDowell got him under a tree and kept talking about the job until the man finally said that if he would just stop talking, he could start Monday morning. "When he got the brokerage job, and he had to go to Brooks Brothers and buy a dress suit, he was on top of the world," his sister said.
"He never did anything half-way, or quietly, or without thinking about those he cared for," said his fiancee, Bebe Morrissey. Shortly before Sept. 11, she said he told her: "I have no regrets and I don't intend on living life where I will create any. It's no way to live."

Dear family,
I met John in NY around 1998 when I visiting with my brother. We played pool with him and had a good laugh. What I can remember is that I tried to give him advise about dutch banking stock ING but he said that I still had learn a lot about stocks. We met a very open and friendly NYer. I attached a picture where Me and my brother are standing on the Brooklyn bridge with the card John gave me. Just recently I found out that John was in one of the twins on the morning of the attack. I feel sad but the pooling memory with is still there.

My wife and I had the
My wife and I had the pleasure to live next door to John at 534 East 83rd street in manhattan. We used to have beers with him and laugh a lot. What a great guy. He was about to embark on marriage to a great girl as well and he wanted a family. This was in the late 90 s and we kept in contact with him after we moved. I hope God has a special place for you in heaven. you were a great guy!!

The Hamptons
I shared a Hamptons share with Axe in 1998. He always seem to be a very nice guy. I remember he had Porsche 911 and he enjoyed playing golf. I was very saddened that he was a victim. What a shame - he will be missed.
