Biography:

John Hart, 38, of Danville, California, and his family, were members of Northampton United Methodist Church at 852 W. Bath Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. His wife, Laurie (Colton) Hart was raised in Cuyahoga Falls where the couple lived for about 6-years while John worked for KeyBank. They have 4-children ages 5, 7, 17 and 19. The Rev. David Scavuzzo, pastor of the church, said he and his congregation have been struggling to cope with the fact that John is among the missing at the World Trade Center. "John was one of the least judgemental people I've ever known," Scavuzzo said. "He lived by God's grace and offered it to others. He made you want to believe in God."

On Sept. 11, 2001, Hart was on the 95th floor of the South Tower of the WTC teaching a project-management class for Franklin Templeton Investment Technologies, headquartered in San Mateo, Ca., when a jet slammed into the building. Laurie Hart learned that her husband had an opportunity to exit the building, but went back to help someone else. "I was told that he had taken the elevator down with a co-worker and had a chance to get out of the building," Laurie said. "The co-worker said he looked so full of energy and turned to her and said, 'I have to go back.'" For friends of John, that is very easy to believe. "That's the kind of person John was - always wanting to help somebody else," said Monte Morgan, who took a vacation at the Hart's Calif. home in August, 2001. "I can just picture him holding somebody else and assuring them that everything would be all right." Contributions to a fund for the Hart family can be sent to the church.
