Julie Geis had a way of encouraging people to do their best, whether they were in a boardroom or on a softball field. "A pitcher from the softball team that she coaches called to tell me that whenever she was not doing what Julie wanted, she would yell at her to try harder," said Ms. Geis's mother, Betty Geis.
Ms. Geis, 44, senior vice president of Aon Corporation, where she worked for six years, was in New York City in the south tower for a monthly meeting on the day of the attacks, Mrs. Geis said. She lived in Lee's Summit, Mo., the small town where she grew up. The job allowed her to indulge a favorite pastime, traveling. Besides New York, business trips took her to London, Paris and Brazil. "Aon was getting established all over the world," Mrs. Geis said. "She loved the challenge. She loved the people."
