I attended the same HS as Patrick. Patrick was my older brothers Mike and Chris’ friend. He knew me but kind of through my brothers. He was someone I looked up to. He was our quarterback on our football team and someone I just admired how he carried himself. Once before a finals in a wrestling tournament I was lined up waiting to be announced. I actually remember the exact location outside of our locker room. Patrick walks up to me, looks me in the eye and says this, “You are going to win this match.” This guy who I viewed as a champion instilled instant confidence in me. I did win 3-2. He had a lot to do with it. After the match I watched him walk out of the gym giving me a thumbs up. Just a brief guest in my life that day but it meant a lot over the years. It changed my confidence level going forward. Today, I am a teacher and try to instill confidence in my students each day just as Patty Lyons did for a 15 year old kid that day back in 1985. Thank you Patty.
