I did not know Firefighter Michael J. Lyons, but I was honored to climb in his memory at the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Baltimore on Saturday, July 18, 2015.
As a native New Yorker who has moved around to numerous states and now works at the US Naval Academy, I have always carried the memory of those lost on 9/11 with me. Doing The Climb and carrying a photo of Firefighter Lyons with me has brought me much closer to the event.
I now look for as much information as I can gather on Firefighter Lyons, as I want to know the hero who I had the privilege to represent during The Climb in Baltimore.
