Big, sweet, enthusiastic, driven — those are just a few of the words his family and friends use to describe Paul K. Sloan, 26, who worked for Keefe Bruyette & Woods.
Growing up in Novato, Calif., he was an ardent follower of the San Francisco Giants and played offensive lineman for the Brown University football team. Mr. Sloan was adamant about his belief that the Beatles produced the best music ever, and worked hard to convert a lot of his friends to that way of thinking.
He was a dedicated collector of articles and e-mails that he would forward to people that he thought might be interested, said his sister, Sarah Funk. Once he forced himself to buy a copy of People magazine, even though Julia Roberts, whom he disliked, was on the cover, because there was an article inside about his brother.
"He wasn't the most recognized on the field, but he took his athletic career the farthest," his friend Andrew Pridgeon wrote not long after Sept. 11 in an op-ed piece published in the Marin Independent Journal. "He wasn't the funniest, but he made you laugh the hardest. He never had the most time, but he was always the one who was there."
