Thank you for your service. You went up into the tower for some (most likely) complete stranger. You gave your life for someone complete strangers. Thank you for your act of kindness. God Bless your family and friends.

I did the 9/11 stair climb with 343 of my fellow brothers and sisters in downtown Denver this year in honor of Robert King Jr. It was a truly humbling and inspiring experience. I want to let his family know that I climbed in his memory and that we will never forget his ultimate sacrifice. I am the same age he was on 9/11/01 and I have a 3 yr old too. I felt a connection to him as I climbed and have his fire card now hanging on my locker as a reminder. To his wife, I'm so sorry for your loss of your husband and the father of your children. I will continue to remember him and work my hardest to honor his memory with my service to my community.

We shared so many interests it’s no wonder we were born on the same day (you a year later). Your loss was unfortunately irreplaceable, in the kitchen, on the back step, in the wood shop, at the table,in the TV room and at home....... until we meet again.

On Friday my sisters and I did the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Stair Climb held at the FDIC Convention at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

I did the climb in memory and honor of Mr. Robert King, Jr. and said his name when I rang the bell upon completion of the climb.

It was a privilege to do so and I will carry his name again next year.

God bless you.

Fire Department of New York | Firefighter, Engine 33
Biography:

Bobby was born to Robert and Audrey King on March 24, 1965 in Mineola, New York. Bobby's early years were spent on Long Island; however, his family has long had a connection to the Ellenville area having spent summers and weekends here. Mr. and Mrs. King still have a home in Ulster Heights. In 1980 Bobby, a sophomore from Hauppauge High School, became a member of Ellenville's Class of 1983. Along with his academic program at Ellenville, he attended the B.O.C.E.S. Auto Mechanics program.

Over the years Bobby developed many skills. He was a Master Carpenter who made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family, his friends, and his firehouse. Bobby loved being with his family. He adored his children: Thomas, Elizabeth, and Stephen; and spent many hours taking them to the park, fishing, bike riding, and even in-line skating. He and his loving wife,Theresa, enjoyed cooking and gardening together.

Bobby had a profound appreciation for the environment and public service. It was his deep respect for humanity that prompted him to become a member of the Fire Department of New York's Engine 33-Ladder 9 located on Great Jones Street in Lower Manhattan. The Ellenville School and community are proud of this alumnus and are grateful for being a part of this fallen firefighter's life. Our condolences and warm wishes go out to all of Bobby's family, friends, and his FDNY comrades.
