Steven Weinberg of New City was a chubby, friendly kid growing up in North Bellmore, Long Island, but transformed into a young man with "movie-star good looks," his cousin, Martin Mande, said at his memorial service in 2001.
An accounting manager, Steven Weinberg, 41, worked in the south tower in the World Trade Center. He was married with three children - Lindsay, Samuel and Jason - and enjoyed volunteering with the PTA and watching them play sports.
In a eulogy on his brother's tribute page on the website voicesofseptember11.org, Paul Weinberg recalled a family vacation through Europe and attending Syracuse University together. When Paul was a senior, his younger brother was a freshman.
"I remember seeing him after the first couple of weeks his first semester there, and asking him how he liked the school," his brother wrote. "He said he liked it. He also told me that people were waving at him and saying "Hi, Paul." We didn't think that we looked that much alike, but apparently other people did."
After graduating from Syracuse, Steven Weinberg took up an accounting job. A client set him up with his niece, Laurie, and they eventually married.
Instead of celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary in August 2002, Laurie got a phone call that his remains had been found.
"The hardest part for me has been being a single parent," she told The Journal News in 2002. "It's not even like I'm a single parent. I'm an only parent."
