Biography:

Retired Detective Second Grade Thomas Barnitt joined the New York City Police Department on July 16, 1984, and began his career on patrol in the 20 Precinct. He also served in the Narcotics Division, and the Drug Enforcement Task Force. He was promoted to Detective in May 1990 and to Detective Second Grade in July 2006. During his 23-year career, Detective Second Grade Barnitt made 270 arrests.

He was recognized five times for Excellent Police Duty, 10 times for Meritorious Police Duty, four times with a Commendation, and once with an award for Exceptional Merit. Detective Second Grade Barnitt retired on February 1, 2007. He died on June 11, 2018.
