Thomas Warren Hohlweck of Harrison loved cars, sports, the New York Philharmonic, and trips to Home Depot, according to a tribute in a newsletter from Westchester Community College, where he was a 1965 graduate.
Hohlweck, 56, worked as a vice president at AON Risk Services on the 102nd floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center. He was a 1967 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College, which has dedicated the Center of Business Studies in his memory.
He received a master's degree from Iona College in New Rochelle and is one of 15 alumni honored on the school's 9/11 memorial. He was survived by his wife and three children.
Memories
The first time I met Tom was in Rochester, NY, on my wedding day in 1975. He was my husband's best friend for many years, and a member of our wedding party. He was seated next to me during the reception, and we had a good time getting to know each other.
My husband, Jakob (Jack) Riess, and I visited Tom on our trips to NYC. We attended his wedding and later enjoyed spending time with him and Anne, including a lovely day at Niagara Falls.
As all our children came along, it became harder to travel but Jack and Tom kept in touch.
On 911, I was at home watching the horrific day unfold knowing that Tom was probably in one of the Towers. I also had friends at Marsh & McClelland.
Several days later, Anne called to let us know our fears were realized; Tom was gone. It still affects me greatly to this day.
Not long after, in 2006, my Jack passed from cancer. It is my hope that they are both together, somewhere, enjoying a beer, and not discussing the insurance industry.
