Mary Ann Riess (not verified)

September 18, 2023

The first time I met Tom was in Rochester, NY, on my wedding day in 1975. He was my husband's best friend for many years, and a member of our wedding party.  He was seated next to me during the reception, and we had a good time getting to know each other.

My husband, Jakob (Jack) Riess, and I  visited Tom on our trips to NYC. We attended his wedding and later enjoyed spending time with him and Anne, including a lovely day at Niagara Falls.

As all our children came along, it became harder to travel but Jack and Tom kept in touch.

On 911, I was at home watching the horrific day unfold knowing that Tom was probably in one of the Towers. I also had friends at Marsh & McClelland.

Several days later, Anne called to let us know our fears were realized; Tom was gone. It still affects me greatly to this day.

Not long after, in 2006, my Jack passed from cancer. It is my hope that they are both together, somewhere, enjoying a beer, and not discussing the insurance industry.
