I have never stopped thinking about this since it happened. At the start of middle school, Yumi, Ria, my sister and I became really tight-knit friends. And then 9/11 happened. Both my parents worked for the UN and were trapped in the city and my siblings and I just panicked until we heard from them.

Several days later, back to school, Yumi was gone. Ria explained that her dad, Yuji Goya, was in the South Tower and... well. She moved back to Japan. I feel so much guilt. I wish I could give her a hug and tell her I'd always be around if she needed me.

Now, I'm sure she's accomplishing the most amazing things. Yumi, I wish all the happiness in the world to you!
