to honor all those who tragically perished on September 11, 2001 in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In the late summer months in 2004, a group of Tewksbury citizens, spearheaded by Fred Simon and John Ryan, joined together to begin the planning of a permanent memorial to honor all those who tragically perished on September 11, 2001 in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This dedicated group of individuals were bonded together by a common goal- - - to erect a Memorial that will forever honor all those who fell on that September morning. Tewksbury sadly lost two of its own citizens, Peter Gay and Peter Hashem. We dedicated this Memorial to them and all the brave souls whose lives were cut short. Through this Memorial, we proudly joined millions of Americans, in thousands of communities across our great nation, in proclaiming that we will “Never Forget”. Construction began in April, 2005, and a formal dedication of the Memorial was held on September 11, 2005, at 9:00 A.M. The names and hometowns of the 2973 victims of September 11, 2001 will be engraved on bricks within the walkway around the Memorial. We are asking individuals, businesses, and public servants to consider sponsoring these bricks. This will enable us to raise funds for the purchase of the bricks and to help with the construction of the Memorial. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 forever changed the lives of every American and of freedom-loving people around the world. Tewksbury lost two of its citizens, Peter Gay and Peter Hashem, on that September morning. We dedicate this Memorial Pavilion to them and all the brave souls whose lives were cut short.

The Memorial, was estimated to cost approximately $260,000, and was erected on the beautiful grounds of the new Tewksbury Public Library at the intersection of Main and Chandler Streets. The Memorial has been designed to be a replica of the Library portico. Building materials were selected because of their longevity and include granite, steel, and slate with a circular brick paved walkway, each bearing the name of the 2973 individuals who fell on September 11, 2001.
