Who's that guy? That's what the copy shop clerk wanted to know when a customer came to pick up the funeral photos of Timothy J. Coughlin. That's what his wife, Maura, wanted to know when she first spotted his "big Irish face" in a downtown bar. People were drawn to him before he even opened his mouth, often to tell a bawdy joke or display his distinctive vocabulary ("Great lair!" he would say to a host).
But there was plenty of substance to back up his friendly appearance. When Mr. Coughlin was not trading treasury securities at Cantor Fitzgerald, golfing, or taking his children -- Ryann, 4, Sean, 2, and Riley, 9 months old -- to the carousel in Central Park, he was planning social gatherings.
"I called him a friendship hawk because he was just so good at circling back and seeing how friends were doing," said Frank Coughlin, one of his three brothers.
Timothy Coughlin was the kind of man who gave the towel guy at the gym his start on Wall Street. The doorman from the Coughlins's Upper East Side building was at the funeral. "I said something smug about how Timmy was so generous," Frank Coughlin recalled. "He said, `No, it wasn't that. It was that Timmy was my friend.' "

I'm a student in 10th grade…
I'm a student in 10th grade and we're doing a research project on an individual that passed away from 9/11. From the pictures and biography, it seemed like he was a really nice man and he had a lot of good friends. I send my condolences and wish him and his family well.

Timmy
I played football with Timmy and we were Directors of Brother Mikes. He was very social everyone's friend and always happy . He borrowed my Panama Hat for a prom and I never saw that hat again. He had a broadcasting deep voice so you always recognized him. Such a tragedy he was taken in the prime of his life

Rest in peace Timothy John
I consider myself “lucky ☘️” to have come across this story. With my heart feeling especially heavy as the 25th anniversary approaches, I took it upon myself to read about some of the victims and learn more about their lives.
I hope you know that Timothy will never be forgotten. He seemed like the kind of man who could light up a room, and hearing Maura’s first impressions of him when she saw him for the first time put a giant smile on my face.
I hope his children are thriving, living full and beautiful lives, and carrying his memory with them every day. God bless this family.
