So many lost their lives on 9/11.  My son once was a fireman, first responder.  I could only be thankful that my son was not one of the many who died that day.
In order for me to make it personal and to think of and pray for the families and friends of some of those heroes, I chose 5 names and pictures of those heroes.
I don't know which website that I was on to choose the names and pictures, but I printed them and cut them out and mounted them on cardstock.

I just want you to know that your loved one, David Halderman, was one of the five that I have been thinking of for 20 years.

I also think of the families who, though they go on, never stop missing their loved one.

From me in North Carolina.

Biography:

Dave has two sisters and two brother; he was the youngest of the brothers. He had just turned 40 on August 2nd 2001. He loved reading history and science fiction. He enjoyed bicycling and running on the beach. He was quiet always preferring to stay in the background; a former employer described him as a quiet gentle man. He moved quite a few times from one apartment to another. his family kidded him about that calling him "traveling Dave". He was very happy in his last apartment in Amityville, New York. Dave had no children, he wasn’t married, however, he enjoyed taking his niece and nephews on outings to Six Flags Great Adventure Park.

He was very active in his twelve step program, where he was recently described as a "real stand up guy". He touched many lives in that fellowship, and he is sorely missed. Dave joined the Fire Department on July 5, 1992, following in the footsteps of his father, who retired after 30 years, and his brother Michael who is a Deputy Chief. At the time of his appointment he took possession his father’s shield. In 1992 he transferred to Squad 18 to be in a busier house and more involved in specialized fire duty. Having been in several companies he found his niche in Squad 18, and had recently completed the training courses for duty in a squad company. He received commendations for two successful patient resuscitations and one of his happiest moments on the job was when he delivered a baby.

At the time of his death he was on the list for promotion to lieutenant. He was promoted posthumously. His nephew Michael was appointed to the Fire Department in 2005 and proudly carries his shield. He tried motorcycling, and he bought a beautiful Harley. In the summer of 2001 he decided that wasn’t for him and planned to sell the bike. It was during that time that his father was very ill at Mt. Sinai Hospital and most of his vacation time was spent visiting his father and driving his mother and sisters to the hospital. His father died on August 8th 2001. He never got to sell the bike. It was eventually sold to a Fire Marshall who is a member of the Fire Riders. The Fire Marshall rode the bike in the procession for the ceremonies in Colorado in 2002. Dave would have like that. Dave was a son, brother, uncle, friend, firefighter, an American hero in our hearts forever.
