As I approached the reflection pool 9/11 memorial at ground zero for the first time. Standing and looking into the cascading water, I looked at the plaque in front of me at waist height I arbitrarily walked up to and froze for a second. Juan Ortega Campos. My last name is Campos and my Grandfathers last name on my mothers side (maiden) is Ortega. I never knew this man, Mr. Ortega-Campos, who perished on 9/11. But he spoke to me in no uncertain terms. “If I can be of assistance to the family”, that's the epiphany I took away from the encounter and the subsequent awareness I have of the man. So here I am Mr. Campos. If there is something further you need me to do. I’m sure you’ll let me know.
