Lesley Anne Thomas got her love for the natural world from a childhood on a farm in Australia. And when she came to this country two years ago, she brought that love with her, reveling in going to open houses with garden tours. She also loved exploring the streets of Hoboken, N.J., where she lived, and Manhattan, where she worked.
"She took a big bite out of New York," said her husband, Joseph O'Keefe, whom she met in Australia in 1995.
Professionally, Ms. Thomas, 40, started making her mark in her native land, where, her brother Mark Thomas said, she was among Australia's elite options traders. "She had quite an impact," he said. "People paid attention to her."
That success continued in her two brief months as an electricity broker at Cantor Fitzgerald's TradeSpark subsidiary. "She always commanded respect," Mr. O'Keefe said. "She was proud of making it in a man's world."
