Biography:

Danny Harlin, a Kent resident and New York City firefighter who died on 9/11, was a man of many talents - and chief among them was the ability to make people smile and laugh. Harlin, who was 41 when he died, was known by co-workers and friends for his teasing and jokes. He had a mischievous grin, loved to give people nicknames and always sought to have fun, no matter how hard the job.

Harlin was a New York City police officer for three years before becoming a firefighter, a job he loved. While his brother firefighters would be dragging themselves back to the rig after fighting a particularly stubborn fire, Harlin would be smiling and pumped from a job well done.

But as much as he loved his work, nothing was more important to Harlin than his family - his wife, the former Debbie Wiedemann, and their three children, Christopher, now 19, Katherine, 17, and Brian, 13. At a memorial and a later funeral for Harlin held in Carmel, his friends told the Harlin children that they were the most important things in their father's life and that he was extremely proud of them.
