Friend during high school
Always kind, fun and extremely witty. Al my memories of Jay are of his ability to make people laugh, never at anyone's expense. This says a lot about a teenage boy.
He followed his dream: the career that his father also left too young.

Remembering Jay with Gratitude
Since that horrific day 25 years ago, I have carried Jay’s memory with me—in my heart, in my prayers, and with profound gratitude. For many years, I kept this story close, sharing it only as a way to honor the extraordinary role Jay played in my life. Through a simple act of kindness and professionalism, Jay unknowingly changed the course of my future and spared my life.
I was scheduled to meet Jay at 8:30 a.m. on September 11, 2001, at Windows on the World to review the floor plan and menu for an office event planned for December. Jay explained that he was hosting a breakfast that morning and would set aside time to meet with me and discuss the details.
On September 10 at approximately 5:00 p.m., I called Jay to ask if we could move our appointment to noon. After several rings, he answered and warmly told me that I had caught him “with his coat on” just as he was leaving for the day, but that he would be happy to accommodate the change. We spoke briefly, and I thanked him for rescheduling. Although we had only spoken by phone before then, I remember being struck by his vibrant personality, kindness, and willingness to help.
What seemed like an ordinary phone call became a life-altering moment. Had Jay not answered that call and agreed to move our meeting, I would have arrived at Windows on the World on the 106th floor of the North Tower at 8:30 a.m. on September 11. Because he took a few extra moments before heading home to his family, my appointment was changed—and my life was saved.
As we mark this solemn anniversary, I share this story not only to remember Jay, but to honor the humanity, generosity, and compassion that defined him. His actions, though routine at the time, had an impact far beyond what anyone could have imagined. I remain forever grateful for the opportunity to have known him, however briefly. May Jay rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
