May 30 Commemoration and Events
On May 30, 2002, thousands gathered to attend a solemn ceremony to mark the end of the 9-month rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. Firefighters, law enforcement and elected officials stood at attention – as the last beam, draped in an American flag was carried up the ramp at the World Trade Center site.
To mark the 22nd Anniversary, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum held a ceremony at the Memorial Glade “to honor the courage and perseverance of the 9/11 rescue, recovery, and relief workers, survivors, and members of the downtown community”. The Memorial Glade was dedicated in 2019. To view the dedication inscription of the Memorial Glade, click here.
