New Canaan CT, January 19, 2011 In response to Senator Joseph Lieberman’s announcement to not seek reelection in the 2012 Senate race, Mary Fetchet, Founding Director of Voices of September 11th, praised Senator Lieberman’s longstanding commitment to public service. “Senator Lieberman’s leadership, statesmanship and dedication to making our country safer will be sorely missed.” Ms. Fetchet first met Senator Lieberman after she lost her 24 year old son Brad in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. “Senator Lieberman helped lead a bi-partisan campaign to support the creation of the 9/11 Commission and subsequent reforms based on the Commission’s recommendations. He supported the 9/11 families through a very difficult time, listening to our concerns and providing a solution to ensure that other families didn’t suffer the loss we suffered on 9/11. It was a privilege to work with him and I will always be grateful for his guidance, compassion and steadfast commitment to making our country safer.”
