Our Voices Together
A Virtual Gathering of the 9/11 Community Before & After the 24th Anniversary

Join us for our upcoming support groups that provide an opportunity for 9/11 families, responders, survivors and families of those impacted by 9/11-related illness to gather virtually in advance of, and after the 24th Anniversary.
Participants will break into small discussion groups to allow for meaningful conversation. The groups will be facilitated by clinicians, including Suzanne Phillips, PhD, Craig Haen, PhD and their colleagues from the American Group Psychological Association (AGPA). Register to attend one or both of the sessions.
About the Presenters
Craig Haen
Fellow, American Group Psychotherapy Association
Craig Haen, Ph.D., RDT, CGP, LCAT, FAGPA has a private practice in White Plains, NY. He is codirector of the Kint Institute, offering training in the arts and trauma treatment in New York City. Dr. Haen is a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, co-chairing the Community Outreach Task Force and serving as founding member of the DEI Task Force.
In these roles, he’s responded to mass trauma events internationally for the past decade and co-authored the organization’s public statements on human rights issues. His most recent book is Creative Arts-Based Group Therapy with Adolescents, with the late Nancy Boyd Webb.
Madelyn Miller, PhD, LCSW
Psychotherapist
As a clinician and educator, Madelyn Miller focuses her work on the realities of trauma and loss, and their inevitable impact on survivors and those providing support to survivors and their communities.
Her psychotherapy practice with adults includes those surviving childhood sexual abuse, other sexual violation, human-made and natural disasters, as well as work with refugees and those seeking asylum. Dr. Miller also provides training, support and consultation to colleagues, community groups and organizations regarding these issues. As an adjunct faculty member at New York University Silver School of Social Work, she has designed and has been teaching clinical practice courses on relational as well as collective trauma and accompanying losses. Dr. Miller is a member of the AGPA Community Outreach Committee.
Suzanne Phillips
Professor, Long Island University; Faculty, Suffolk Institute
Dr. Suzanne Phillips is an Adjunct Full Professor of Clinical Psychology, Long Island University Faculty, Suffolk Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy Fellow, and Board Member and Co-Chair, Community Outreach, AGPA. Dr. Phillips a retired Adjunct Full Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Psychology Doctoral Program at LIU Post, NY, and Group Faculty and Supervisor at the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies.
She is in private practice in Northport, NY, co-author of three books, over 40 articles and chapters, and hosts Psych Up Live on International Talk Radio.
Leo Leiderman, PsyD
Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and Group Psychology
Dr. Leonardo (Leo) M. Leiderman is a trilingual/tricultural clinical psychologist who is a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and Group Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology; a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology; a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) and is the Director of Neurofeedback & Psychological Services in Purchase, New York.
He is President- Elect of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (2024-2026), and is the Editor of The Group Circle- AGPA and International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists newsletter. He was instrumental in establishing the first bilingual/bicultural mental health treatment program in Westchester County, NY at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers where he served as the director for almost 20 years.
He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally and has made guest appearances on both radio and television on topics related to bilingual/bicultural mental health and trauma. He has published a book, peer reviewed articles, chapters, columns considerably with special focus on group psychotherapy to treat Complex PTSD and dissociation.
He received the Alonso Award for Excellence in Psychodynamic Group Psychotherapy from the Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health for Psychodynamic group therapy with Hispanic migrants: Interpersonal, relational constructs in treating complex trauma, dissociation, and enactments. He is a member of the editorial board of the, International Journal of Group Psychotherapy.
Victor L. Schermer, MA, LFAGPA
Licensed Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
Victor L. Schermer, MA, LFAGPA is a licensed psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice in Philadelphia, PA. Schermer was formerly on the Faculty of the Continuing Education Program for Social Workers at Rutgers University. He has served as founding Director of Outpatient Addictions Services at Mirmont Treatment Center and Faculty Member of the Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies.
He is a Life Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. In addition, he served as a consultant to their September 11th Disaster Outreach Task Force, for which he wrote their training module on “Masked Trauma.”
Schermer served as co-editor with Robert H. Klein of two special editions of the International Journal of Group Psychotherapy: Toward Understanding and Treating Violence in America: Some Contributions from Group Dynamic and Group Therapy Perspectives (65, 1,2; 2015). Republished in book form, Violence in America (Routledge, December 2016). He authored Meaning, Mind, and Self-Transformation: Psychoanalytic Interpretation and the Interpretation of Psychoanalysis (Karnac Books). He co-edited On Becoming a Psychotherapist: The Personal and Professional Journey (Oxford).
He is co-editor with Robert Klein of Group Psychotherapy for Psychological Trauma (Guilford), for which they received the 2002 Alonso Award of the Group Psychotherapy Foundation. He is coauthor of Object Relations, the Self, and the Group (Routledge) and coeditor of Ring of Fire (Routledge), Group Psychotherapy of the Psychoses (Jessica Kingsley), and Leadership in a Changing World: Dynamic Perspectives on Groups and Their Leaders (Lexington Books). He is author of Spirit and Psyche (Jessica Kingsley). He co-authored the chapter on "The Group Therapist's Role from a Self Psychology Perspective" in The Handbook of Contemporary Group Psychotherapy (J. Kleinberg, editor; Wiley Blackwell Publications), and has contributed numerous articles and reviews to journals in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
Schermer is a frequent presenter of lectures, workshops, and panels internationally, including the U.S., Canada, England, Greece, Denmark, Holland, Northern Ireland, and Norway. In 2006, he presented the Annual S.H. Foulkes Lecture for the Group Analytic Society in London.
