NEW CANAAN, Conn. (April 14, 2008) – Performances by the Harlem Gospel Choir and remarks by ESPN’s Chris Berman on the importance of team spirit off the field, both on 9/11 and afterwards, will highlight the first-ever fundraising gala for Voices of September 11th (VOICES). The event will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the Greenwich Country Club.

Hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, the “Always Remember” Gala will raise funds to assist in the creation of the Voices of September 11th Living Memorial digital archive (www.911livingmemorial.org ) to commemorate the lives and stories of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The commemorative Web site will eventually be incorporated into the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center as a core component of the Museum’s digital resource center.

The Always Remember Gala will include a silent auction, dinner, live auction and entertainment by the Harlem Gospel Choir, considered among the most famous gospel choirs in America. In April they were scheduled to perform for Pope Benedict XVI in Yankee Stadium.

Chris Berman’s gala remarks will focus on the importance of America’s team spirit off the field in the weeks and months after the events of 9/11.  A six-time National Sportscaster of the Year, Berman is best known for his signature delivery of highlights of every sport, mostly notably on ESPN’s NFL Sundays. A native of Connecticut, he began his television career in 1979 as weekend sports anchor of NBC affiliate WVIT-TV in Hartford.
