Voices Center for Resilience Seeks Experienced Social Worker to serve as Director of Social Services
Job Description
Voices Center for Resilience (VOICES), located in New Canaan, CT, is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 that provides continuity of care and long-term support for individuals and families impacted by the September 11th terrorist attacks. VOICES collaborates with partners to share lessons learned to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from tragedy.
VOICES is seeking an experienced social worker to serve as Director of Social Services and provide trauma-informed care and address the ongoing emotional, mental health, and social challenges related to the long-term impact of 9/11. As the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 approaches, VOICES is expanding its programs to meet the needs of victims’ families, responders, survivors, and those who serve them. The candidate will work with the VOICES Executive Director and our multidisciplinary team to oversee a variety of social service and mental health programs that promote healing, connection, and resilience.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals and communities impacted by one of the most significant tragedies in modern history while contributing to nationally recognized programs focused on trauma-informed care, resilience, long-term recovery, and community preparedness. The selected candidate will engage with 9/11 families, survivors, responders, mental health professionals, and community leaders, while helping to shape programs connected to the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 and the future of trauma-informed services and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual assessments, provide case management services, and referrals
- Facilitate peer support groups
- Implement outreach efforts to expand local and national partnerships
- Assist in developing and delivering mental health programs
- Supervise graduate student social work interns
- Assist in facilitating the 25th Anniversary Symposium in New York City
Qualifications:
- MSW or LCSW
- Experience with caseload management and facilitation of peer support groups
- Experience conducting intakes, assessments, and referrals
- Experience providing trauma-informed care and grief counseling
- Program development experience
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with individuals and communities impacted by traumatic events
- Expertise working with victims’ families, survivors, and responders
- Experience conducting workshops and trainings
- Experience supervising students and volunteers; SIFI Certification preferred

VOICES is equally committed to working with public-private partners to help communities prepare for and respond to tragedy. This year we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, an important milestone for the organization and the community we serve. VOICES is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and relationship-focused leader to join our team as Director of Partnerships & Special Projects.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of trauma-informed care, community resilience, public-private partnerships, and national engagement efforts connected to one of the most significant events in modern history. The selected candidate will collaborate with leaders in mental health, emergency management, law enforcement, government, philanthropy, and nonprofit organizations while helping shape initiatives connected to the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 and the future of community preparedness, healing, and resilience.
Position Summary:
This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals and communities impacted by one of the most significant tragedies in modern history while contributing to nationally recognized programs focused on trauma-informed care, resilience, long-term recovery, and community preparedness. The selected candidate will engage with 9/11 families, survivors, responders, mental health professionals, and community leaders, while helping to shape programs connected to the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 and the future of trauma-informed services and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage partnerships with corporations, nonprofits, foundations, and community stakeholders
- Lead special projects and cross-functional initiatives from planning through execution
- Support fundraising, sponsorship, and community engagement efforts
- Represent the organization at meetings, events, and networking opportunities
- Track project outcomes and prepare reports for leadership and partners
- Collaborate across departments to advance organizational goals and strategic priorities
- Assist with planning and implementation of programs and events related to the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, including the VOICES Symposium and commemorative initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit partnerships, development, project management, or related field
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively
- Experience with project management tools preferred
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with mission-driven organizations and community-based initiatives
- Understanding of trauma-informed or resilience-focused programs
- Experience coordinating large-scale events, partnerships, or special initiatives
- Ability to engage diverse stakeholders with professionalism and empathy
