Our Voices, Our Stories: A StoryCorps Recording Opportunity

Our Voices, Our Stories
A StoryCorps Recording Opportunity
September 8th, 9th, and 10th
New York Marriott Downtown
85 West Street, New York City

Voices Center for Resilience is delighted to announce that we are partnering with StoryCorps to preserve the stories of the 9/11 Community - including family members, responders, and survivors. During VOICES 25th Anniversary NYC Symposium, StoryCorps will be conducting recordings at the event on September 8th, 9th and 10th at the NY Downtown Marriott Hotel, located at 85 West Street.
Members of the 9/11 Community are invited to register to participate and will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Each recording session is designed as a conversation between two individuals. Participants are invited to sit down with a family member, friend or colleague to share memories of a loved one, reflect on their life and legacy, and preserve their story for generations to come. Limited space is available.
In 2005, Voices Center for Resilience (VOICES) created the 9/11 Living Memorial Project, working with families to commemorate the 2,977 lives lost and document stories of responders and survivors. Today, the online memorial includes over 87,000 photographs and personal mementos, honoring the lives lost and the stories of those who survived in a meaningful way for future generations. The collection of photographs is also a core component of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
If you would like to participate in a recording, please complete the registration form and we will contact you regarding next steps.
About StoryCorps
StoryCorps began collecting remembrance recordings for victims of the September 11 attacks in 2005. In partnership with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, more than 1,200 interviews were recorded, honoring approximately 700 people who lost their lives in the attacks. These conversations preserve not only the events of September 11, but also the lives, relationships, memories, and legacies of those who were lost.
Designated as a national nonprofit organization, StoryCorps is dedicated to recording, preserving, and sharing the stories of people from all backgrounds and beliefs. Since 2003, the organization has helped hundreds of thousands of people record meaningful conversations about their lives and the people who matter most to them. These conversations are preserved in the StoryCorps Archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, creating a lasting record for families and future generations.
In addition to becoming part of the StoryCorps archive in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, interviews collected through the September 11th Initiative also become part of a special collection at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. In 2012, StoryCorps received a Peabody Award for animations and audio commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and shared an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award with NPR and POV for the series StoryCorps 9/11.
