
Kara Cooper, LMSW, is the newest member of VOICES, bringing her diverse experience as a volunteer, academic coach, administrator, and educator. Her varied background has led her to become a licensed social worker, working with adults and adolescents.
Kara will be filling the role of VOICES Director of Social Services leading the organization’s support and bereavement groups for the 9/11 Community. Additionally, Kara is tasked with expanding awareness and engagement for VOICES support programs for all those affected by tragedy.
Before joining VOICES, Kara worked as a Clinical Social Work Intern at Silver Hill Hospital, interviewing patients to generate biopsychosocial reports for the lead psychiatrist and medical team. Additionally, she facilitated adult and adolescent therapeutic groups, with a focus on psychoeducation and maintaining a safe and inclusive space.
A firm believer in equal opportunity, Kara worked at Horizons, hosted at New Canaan Country School, where she mentored and provided social-emotional support to underrepresented low-income high school seniors through the college application process, As a youth development consultant, Kara has empowered adolescents to make informed and healthy life choices, leading seminars on self-concept, leadership skills, and work readiness. Kara also teaches trauma-informed yoga and enjoys hiking with her dog and playing the flute.
