Last weekend I attended Beverly Eckert’s memorial service in Buffalo, along with ten members of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee. In the days after 9/11 we came together with a shared purpose - to advocate for the creation of the 9/11 Commission. After many years, we were reunited to pay our respects to our friend and share our memories of Beverly with her family.

Last Friday, my husband Frank and I were honored to meet President Obama, together with forty other family members who lost loved ones in the attacks on 9/11, the U.S.S. Cole and the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania. The White House scheduled the meeting so that President Obama could discuss his plans to close the Guantanamo detention center and begin a dialogue with the families to hear their concerns, as well as answer any questions.

My husband Frank and I were honored to attend the Inauguration in Washington, DC. We were among the nearly 2 million people who braved the cold and walked for miles to witness the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, take the oath of office.

This week an announcement was made that two significant pieces of history – the construction ramp at Ground Zero and the Survivors’ Stairway will be moved, demonstrating that progress is being made in the building of the National September 11 Memorial Museum.

This week’s deadly attacks in Mumbai are a horrific reminder that the threat of terrorism remains high around the world. The television coverage brought flashbacks of what we lived through in those terrible hours and days after 9/11. Immediately our thoughts and prayers were with the family and friends that were in search of their loved ones.
