The signing of the “Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act of 2007” into law by President Bush today is a good step forward in protecting Americans from future terrorist attacks. I applaud the President's signature on a bill that takes critical steps towards legislating the outstanding 9/11 Commission recommendations.

We have included more details about the upcoming September 10th Forum and September 11th Commemorative Luncheon. This years forum, “Preserving 9/11”, will be an opportunity for families, rescue workers, survivors and corporations to learn more about the 9/11 Living Memorial project and hear from experts on how to preserve your priceless photographs and other 9/11 mementos.

Many thanks to all those who answered the 9/11 families action alert this week. We received good news from Washington that Senate conferees have been appointed and the House will soon follow suit. The 9/11 legislation must now pass through the House/Senate conference process and be forwarded to the President for signature.

We are busy finalizing our plans for the VOICES September 10th and 11th events in New York City. This years program will focus on the 9/11 Living Memorial project, commemorating the lives and stories of 9/11.

All of us at VOICES will be thinking of you and your family as we observe Father’s Day this Sunday. We recognize that the holiday may be another difficult day for those who suffered a loss on September 11th. We join you in remembering and honoring the men who played such an important role in shaping the lives of our children and families.

I want to thank those of you who attended this week’s 9/11 Living Memorial workshop in Jamison, PA. Also, a special thanks to Susan Bizon of NOVA PA for all her help in arranging the workshop. It’s wonderful to meet with families who are so eager to begin the process of creating a tribute page for their loved one.

This week's 9/11 Living Memorial Feature is a memorial in Wayne County, PA that honors the service of the brave first responders and armed service members who keep us safe and protect our freedoms.

Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer, parades and picnics with family and friends. The holiday weekend is also a time to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day - honoring the brave Americans who have fought to protect our country.

Yesterday we held two 9/11 Living Memorial workshops at the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund offices in Boston. It was wonderful to learn more about the organization created by family members specifically to support those living outside the New York City area.
