Edward T. Keane Memorial Quilt

Quilt Image 1Family members shared this beautiful keepsake with VOICES staff during their 9/11 Living Memorial appointment on June 24th at the Public Safety Training Academy, Parsippany, NJ. Barbara Keane (wife of Edward T. Keane), daughter Cynthia Keane Polo, M.D. and granddaughter Maggie Polo, proudly display this lovely, hand-sewn quilt honoring the life and loves of Edward. Comprised of various items of Ed's clothing, such as shirts and ties, each of the quilt's panels lovingly displays a different facet of Ed's life.

One panel depicts Ed's sailboat, named Cheers, which holds so many memories of sunny days, fresh air, and tubing adventures. A smile came to Barbara's face when she spoke of how much Ed had loved the work he did as a mechanical engineer for the Port Authority, where he was involved in many bridge and tunnel projects, a sampling of which is embroidered into the quilt.

Quilt Image 1Yet another panel shows fond memories of NYC from when Ed played avid tour guide to relatives visiting from Lithuania. His wife shared how Ed loved to bring them into NYC and show them the sights. Family photos and vacation memories help complete this very touching tribute to Edward Thomas Keane, hand stitched by Shirley A. Ladetto of Sagamore, Massachusetts. Ms. Ladetto's labor of love took two years to complete (2002-2004) and is an indication to us all that we are all connected.
