Victims Compensation Fund Enrollment Period Extended
The Victim Compensation Fund has extended its filing deadline from 2019 to July 29, 2021. This two year extension makes filing for compensation and other benefits available to those who missed the previous filing deadlines.
Many were unaware of the program or did not know that their conditions or (death of a loved one) were related to their exposure to toxins in Lower Manhattan on 9/11 and the months that followed. This extension expands the eligibility for families of first responders and survivors who died or were diagnosed with 9/11-related illnesses, to submit a claim for compensation.
This announcement brings to light that 9/11 victims’ families who spent countless hours at Ground Zero, and who are experiencing health problems may not realize their condition is related to exposure to toxins. These families may also be eligible to enroll in the World Trade Center Health Program as well as the Victim Compensation Fund.
