VOICES is excited to be participating in a short documentary film that highlights stories of resiliency that we hear every day in our work with 9/11 families, survivors and rescue workers. This documentary will be premiered on September 8th at the 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Summit at the Newseum in Washington, DC. We would like to invite you to share your inspirational stories with others by participating in this project.

This week Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced a resolution that "calls on Americans to come together as a nation for a Moment of Remembrance at 1:00 PM on September 11, 2011." We are grateful to Senator Lautenberg and his co-sponsors, Senators Robert Menendez , Charles Schumer, Robert P. Casey, Jr., Pat Toomey, Richard Blumenthal, Joseph Lieberman, Mark Warner, and Jim Webb, for their leadership in sponsoring this meaningful resolution.

During the month of July, Voices of September 11th will host 9/11 Living Memorial Workshops in several locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Washington D.C. VOICES staff is available to meet with you at our New Canaan, CT or New Brunswick, NJ offices or to host a workshop in your community.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at VOICES "Always Remember" Gala. The evening was inspirational and our special guests made the event very meaningful. We are grateful to our keynote speaker Mayor Giuliani, Master of Ceremonies Brian Williams, and our Honorary Chairman Governor Tom Kean. The evening was filled with the beautiful music of the First Presbyterian Church Choir, cellist Nada Rudulovich and Broadway performers Terry Eldh and Terry Keegan!

As we approach the 10th Anniversary, Voices of September 11th is participating in a number of events focused on promoting resiliency and healing. Please join us for a special presentation on journaling at the Morgan Library, Gilder Lehrman Auditorium, on Friday, May 13th at 6:30pm. Attendees are invited to view the wonderful gallery exhibition following the presentation. Tickets are free, but reservations are necessary.

The events of this week demonstrate the importance of the support of our family and friends. Whether we gathered in front of the TV or at the World Trade Center site, for most Americans the spontaneous response to the shocking news was to reach out to others who understand. Like many of you, I found a range of emotions arise – shock, disbelief, relief and appreciation to President Obama and the military who bravely carried out the mission.

In the past several weeks I've had an opportunity to reconnect with family members I met in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. It's inspiring to see the resiliency they have exhibited since those initial days when we held meetings in my home for the Connecticut families.
