As I finalize this letter, Pope Benedict XVI is in New York City speaking to the General Assembly at the United Nations. On Sunday the Pope will visit Ground Zero to pray and bless the site. His historic pilgrimage reinforces the sacredness of the site where so many of our loved ones perished.

This week I visited Syracuse University as part of the schools celebration of our 1st amendment rights that allow ordinary citizens to petition the government. I spoke to students about my firsthand experience working with other 9/11 families as part of a grassroots effort to campaign for the creation of the 9/11 Commission, and legislation based on the Commission's recommendations.

While our staff is working diligently in our offices to expand the 9/11 Living Memorial digital archive, my husband Frank and I met with 9/11 family members in Raleigh, North Carolina yesterday. It was truly a pleasure to meet families for the first time and hear about the wonderful lives of their loved ones that will be reflected in the 9/11 Living Memorial.

On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the British Memorial Garden Trust's fifth annual Gala. As many of you know, the Trust, led by visionary Camilla Hellman, is creating a lovely garden in New York City’s Hanover Square Park to commemorate the 67 British lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Today I am in snowy yet lovely Chicago, which brings back fond memories of visiting my grandparents as a child. Yesterday we held a 9/11 Living Memorial workshop for family members who braved the snowstorm to learn more about the project.
