Dennis Tortorella, Mamaroneck volunteer firefighter, headed to Ground Zero on 9/11

Dennis Tortorella joined fellow Town of Mamaroneck firefighters and headed to New York City to help out on Sept. 11, 2001. That night, they ended up at Ground Zero, fighting the spate of fires that continued to burn in nearby buildings. He died Monday, May 4. He was 75. The cause was 9/11-related cancer, his family said. Ribbon cut on new 1.5-mile section of 9/11 National Memorial Trail in Somerset

Somerset County and other officials cut the ribbon Friday in Garrett for the first 1.5 miles of the newly developed off-road section of the 1,300-mile-long 9/11 National Memorial Trail.
