As we approach the 10th Anniversary, Voices of September 11th is participating in a number of events focused on promoting resiliency and healing. Please join us for a special presentation on journaling at the Morgan Library, Gilder Lehrman Auditorium, on Friday, May 13th at 6:30pm. Attendees are invited to view the wonderful gallery exhibition following the presentation. Tickets are free, but reservations are necessary.

The events of this week demonstrate the importance of the support of our family and friends.  Whether we gathered in front of the TV or at the World Trade Center site, for most Americans the spontaneous response to the shocking news was to reach out to others who understand.  Like many of you, I found a range of emotions arise – shock, disbelief, relief and appreciation to President Obama and the military who bravely carried out the mission.

In the past several weeks I've had an opportunity to reconnect with family members I met in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. It's inspiring to see the resiliency they have exhibited since those initial days when we held meetings in my home for the Connecticut families.

It's also a time of reflection and renewal as we welcome flowers blooming and the first signs of Spring. It is with these thoughts in mind, we hope you find peace and comfort during this very special time of year.

For the families, rescue and recovery workers, survivors, and other New Yorkers affected by the 9/11 attacks, the upcoming tenth anniversary commemorations are bound to stir deep emotion. This special evening, organized in conjunction with the exhibition The Diary: Three Centuries of Private Lives (which includes the journals of two police lieutenants who led 9/11 rescue and recovery efforts), explores the power of journal keeping and encourages participants to document their experience as this anniversary year unfolds.

There have been recent news reports questioning the decision made many years ago regarding the inclusion of unidentified remains in the 9/11 Memorial Museum. This prompted Frank and I to join with other 9/11 family members to create the following joint letter which summarizes the thoughtful process that was guided by a wide range of family members over the course of many years.

This afternoon Attorney General Eric Holder announced that he is referring the cases of the five 9/11 conspirators to the Department of Defense and the trials will proceed in a military tribunal. In an effort to keep our members informed leading up to the 10th anniversary, we will be sending out regular updates on events and information that is pertinent to the 9/11 community. Information will also be posted on our website and calendar of events.

In anticipation of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, Voices of September 11th is offering a Speaker Series to provide 9/11 families, survivors and rescue and recovery workers with a community of support while promoting self-expression, healing and resilience. The set of six presentations will run from March through August 2011, held at the VOICES New Brunswick office at 84 Albany Street in New Brunswick. The series will be a combination of lecture and hand-on activities.
