For some people, a day without a cloud in a sky is a blessing. For others, it is a reminder of the worst day in their lives. At Voices of September 11th we understand both feelings. For more than 12 years, we have worked with 9/11 families, rescue workers and survivors. We remain committed to helping families commemorate their loved ones through the 9/11 Living Memorial Project, which will be a core component of the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

On Friday, January 17th Voices of September 11th is hosting a Community Resilience Symposium in conjunction with Rutgers University to educate professionals about the needs of victims' families and survivors.

This year on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, Voices of September 11th is joining with others in celebrating a day dedicated to giving. On this day, charities, families, businesses, community centers, students, retailers and more will all come together for #GivingTuesday - a national movement to celebrate giving during the Holiday Season!

As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, we count our many blessings, especially the wonderful family and friends who have supported us over the years. We also pause to remember and celebrate the lives of the special people who are no longer with us.

Our staff is busy finalizing plans for the annual Always Remember Gala. With just a week away, a few places are still available but reservations must be made by Monday, October 14th. We are very excited to announce that our friend, Joan Lunden, will be returning to serve as the MC.

I am delighted to share with you the news that this year's Building Bridges award will be given to the Police Commissioner for the City of New York, Raymond W. Kelly. The award will be given at the 6th Annual Always Remember Gala on October 16th at Guastavino's. It will be presented following the keynote address of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

It seems that a day doesn't go by that 9/11 is not in the news - whether it is a story about a movie or television show, conflict in the Middle East, or once again, an incident of mass violence. Our hearts go out to all of those who lost loved ones in the shooting in Washington, D.C. We know all too well the path they will be on and how difficult that journey will be over the years.
