After nearly a decade long fight to stand by our first responders who answered the call of duty on September 11th, Congress finally fulfilled its moral obligation in late 2010 and provided our 9/11 heroes with the health care and financial compensation they deserved by passing the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced new bipartisan legislation, known as the Transparency for the Families of 9/11 Victims and Survivors Act of 2015 that would require President Obama to declassify and make publicly available the redacted 28 pages from the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 2001.

Earlier this summer, O’Madden, 31, felt he was living in a distracted haze, sprinkled with nighttime panic attacks. Retired Detective Ronald Richards, 45, of the NYPD bomb squad, died Sunday after a long, 9/11-related illness. Richards was assigned to Emergency Service Truck 5 in Staten Island on 9/11 and he responded when the planes struck the World Trade Center. More.

In a major victory for ailing first responders, congressional negotiators included an $8.1 billion measure to renew the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act in the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending package that was finalized and released Tuesday night, lawmakers said. More.
