New Canaan-based Voices of September 11th will be hosting its inaugural golf outing on Monday, June 8. The event will be held at Woodway Country Club in Darien. The outing is chaired by New Canaan resident Peter Krieger.

Committee members are Linus Cooke, Jerry Fadden, Frank Fetchet, Jack Loop, Jerry Miller, Whitney Williams and Kurt Wolfgruber. More.

Members of the FDNY who were seriously hurt in the aftermath of 9/11 will appear before a congressional committee in Washington on Thursday. Early Thursday morning, about 50 boarded busses on Randall’s Island bound for Washington. They’re planning to lobby Congress to support the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act. More.

With two programs that provide health care and financial help for Sept. 11 responders set to expire next month, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was in White Plains Wednesday to show her support for making the provisions permanent. More.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum selected Las Vegas, Pittsburgh and Greece as recipients of this year’s “Survivor Tree” seedlings. The communities, which have recently been impacted by extreme disaster or violence, have committed to nurturing these trees to serve as landmarks symbolizing resiliency and hope. More.

Theresa Giammona spoke to her husband, Vincent Giammona, twice on the morning of September 11, 2001. The first was a call to plan the day. It was Vinny’s 40th birthday. A lieutenant in the fire department, he had just finished a 24-hour shift at Ladder Company 5 on Houston Street in Manhattan, and he stuck around longer at the firehouse so he could go for a run.
