9/11 panel: Terrorism fight is in 'new and dangerous phase

The global struggle against terrorism has "entered a new and dangerous phase" with growing threats posed by foreign fighters returning from the civil war in Syria and the vulnerability of critical systems to cyber attack, the original authors of the 9/11 Commission report concluded in a new analysis. Marking the 10th anniversary of the panel's landmark report, which identified an array of intelligence failures leading up to the 2001 terrorist attacks, panel chairman Tom Kean said Tuesday there was "broad agreement" on the new threats facing the nation and rest of the world.

Vice President Shares Admiration for 9/11 Generation

Vice President Joe Biden paid special tribute to the 9/11 generation during his address to more than 12,000 members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the organization’s national convention in St. Louis yesterday. Biden singled out former Army Sgt. Ryan Pitts, who received the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony later in the day for his actions against more than 200 heavily armed insurgents near a small Afghanistan village in 2008. More.

On a recent afternoon, an older man and woman self-consciously configured themselves in front of the south reflecting pool at the 9/11 Memorial. The man placed his hand on the woman’s hip in an awkward clasp and grinned broadly as another person took their picture with a digital camera. A girl in a Yankees cap took a selfie with her camera phone, the Freedom Tower soaring into the sky behind her, the reflecting pool draining into nothingness. She was smiling. More.

Firefighters Hold Annual Ceremony In Remembrance Of 9/11

Remembering one step at a time. Friday, firefighters from Maryland to New York held their annual stair climb of 110 floors. Alex DeMetrick reports that’s how high firefighters climbed at the World Trade Center on 9/11. It starts with a bell and a name.
