NY Guard Airmen plant 'Survivor Tree' to commemorate 9/11
Airmen of the Eastern Air Defense Sector marked the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center by planting a seedling from a tree that survived the attack outside their headquarters in Rome. The seedling from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Survivor Tree was planted May 26 by Rome Mayor Jackie Izzo. More.

To honor his brother’s sacrifice, one man is planning to walk 500 miles to thank first responders for their everyday heroism and commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks. Frank Siller lost his brother Stephen, who answered the call on 9/11 by running with his firefighter gear through Brooklyn Battery Tunnel toward the Twin Towers. More.

Oceanside park redesigned in honor of fallen champion for 9/11 first responders
A newly redesigned park in Oceanside just unveiled Tuesday is paying tribute to a fallen hometown hero. NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez died in 2019 from cancer stemming from his work on Sept. 11, 2001 at ground zero. Through his advocacy work for his fellow first responders, funding for 9/11 heroes will remain in place until 2092. More.
