Father's Day is a time to thank the special men in our lives - our Fathers, Step-fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Brothers and those individuals whose guidance and sacrifice has shaped us in so many ways. It's also a time to remember those who aren't with us today, but whose memory lives on through the stories we share.
It was my privilege to witness a special moment. A woman stood at the smart table with her grandchildren. They clicked on the photos while the grandmother told them stories that went with each one. “Oh, that was your father’s first communion.” “Oh look at how handsome your uncle looked on his wedding day.”
Voices of September 11th is pleased to welcome Carrie Miller as the new program director of the New Brunswick office. Carrie comes to us with an extensive background in social work and case management. Prior to joining VOICES, Carrie worked as a resource case manager at NHS Human Services, helping clients locate community resources for financial assistance.
A few nights ago, the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings faced off for the first game of the 2014 Stanley Cup. At VOICES, we feel a special connection to the two teams in the finals this year. We are excited for the Rangers, our hometown team, to be in the finals for the first time since they won in 1994.
The Spring 2014 interns are here! The Voices of September 11th office in Connecticut is lucky to be located near two high schools with strong internship programs. Both Staples and New Canaan provide seniors with the opportunity to intern at a local company for the last four weeks of the semester. This year, VOICES’ six interns have been working tirelessly on the Living Memorial project.
“Intelligent, conscientious, engaging, and empathetic” are the words Sheri Burkat the past Program Director of the New Brunswick, NJ office used to describe the social work interns Amanda Fennimore and Lauren Picciallo she has been working with for the past year. Amanda and Lauren graduated two weeks ago with their Bachelors in Social Work from Rutgers University.
